1Q19 Smartphone Market Share (Preliminary)
The data used in this report is from IDC’s 1Q19 smartphone shipment. Currently it is preliminary data, it does not cover region and price segments.
- In 1Q19, global smartphone shipment exceeds 313M units, a near 6% drop compared to same period last year. Samsung still leads the market with about 23% share, but it has declined about 8% on year. Huawei continuously perform tremendously well, increase more than 50%. OPPO performs marginally worse than same period last year, drops 6% on year. Lenovo performs well, with about 7% increase on year, exceeding 3% market share.
- Apple iPhone XR (2018/10) leads the global market with 11.57M units in 1Q19, follows by low end Samsung Galaxy J4+ (2018/10). Redmi 6A (2018/6) continue to lead the entry level (below $100). Mid-range Galaxy A series (2019/3 A30 and A50) fills the $200~400 segment. Apple iPhone, Huawei P and Mate series, as well as Samsung Galaxy S10 series fill the high end above $400 price segment.
- Fingerprint on Display (FoD) and OLED display are 2 major trends. In 1Q19, the shipment of FoD equipped phone is near 34M units (about 10% of overall shipment). The top 20 FoD phones include Samsung Galaxy S10 series, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, OPPO R high-end series, vivo X and V series. There are about 86M units (about 28% of overall shipment) of OLED phones shipped in 1Q19. Samsung Galaxy S10+ and Apple iPhone XS Max are top 2 of the OLED phones.
- Multi-cam (dual cam or above) is already a default specification for a smartphone. The shipment of smartphones with tri-cam or above in 1Q19 own near 12% of the overall shipment. Naturally, high-end devices ($500>) own majority share of the tri-cam or above smartphone shipment. Samsung and Huawei basically leads every major price segments.
